The ☀️ is shining today! It's been a wet, gra The ☀️ is shining today! It's been a wet, gray year so far: we've had 40.3" of rain since January 1. That's an average of 3/4" per day, or all of Portland's average annual rainfall. I am so grateful for the abundant, clean, fresh water in this coastal rainforest that I call home. But the unrelenting gray skies and wet weather have been getting to me, and it's been hard to motivate myself to get outside and work.

There's only so much you can do when the fields are underwater anyway, and even our greenhouses flooded on Monday. Note at the bottom of photo 2 my improvised drainage pipe, a 3" pipe that's been channeling water out of the field pretty much all year.

The farm is mostly still dormant, but there are a few signs of spring. The buds are swelling on the earliest plum trees (photo 3) and the grass is growing. Early salad and radishes are getting their true leaves, and the first tomatoes are just sprouting in the propagation house. We've been chipping away at the pruning (there's a lot of it now!) and getting all of our plans and spaces ready for the growing season.

Here's hoping for more sun...
